Tobias Deggans

Tobias Jordaan Eric Deggans (b. 2004) is a composer, artist, poet, activist, and educator based in the state of Florida. Influenced by his choral contemporaries and obscure indie esoterica alike, Tobias strives to bring a fresh new angle to every peice he writes-- whether it be the introduction of slow, phasing formal sections to choral works or his music-school perspectives in more electronic fare. Currently persuing his bachelor's in Music Education with a Choral Focus at Florida State University, his love of experimentation, improvisation, and boundary-pushing comes hand in hand with his strong drive to keep his work accessible: in his view, some of the most impactful and capitvating works in any genre are those that are deceptively simple and unfailingly earnest. Throughout his journey as a transgender man in music education, he strives to use his many artistic interests to facilitate in others the healing, community, and catharsis that choir music has always brought him.
