How do you create longer works without the music getting stale? Every time I try to write something with the intention of it being a longer piece, it either sounds too repetitive or like there's too many ideas and it just doesn't feel like a complete work. Got any tips?

I like what Ethan said and I'll also add on that sometimes I like to write the ending of a piece first. This can help with longer pieces since sometimes you just feel lost if you write from beginning to end. To your concern about the music becoming stale though, I feel like as composers (or at least this is something I struggle with), are constantly moving super quickly from idea to idea and not always giving each idea the time it needs to develop. So I feel like repetition isn't necessarily a bad thing; if it's a really cool phrase or something really hard that the choir takes time to perfect, repeat it! Hope that helps :)
